Bereavement Support

Water Lillies

Losing someone dear comes with a mixture of feelings that are often at odds with one another: profound sadness, relief, guilt, anger, pangs of love. Feelings are natural and, in fact, they are the very mechanisms we need to cope and eventually be at peace with loss.

Central to the mission of Home & Hospice Care of Rhode Island is helping people cope with difficult times that follow death. Our staff keeps in touch with those who have lost a loved one for up to one year after the death.

HHCRI also provides a variety of ways to help people who are grieving, as everyone grieves differently. We offer:

  • Programs that offer support and guidance, including Spring Celebration of Remembrance Services; Light Up a Life Celebrations (tree lightings) and special workshops.
  • Support for children, teens and adults
  • Groups (six-week sessions) throughout the state led by trained facilitators. They are open to anyone who has experienced a loss, regardless of whether hospice was used.
  • Camp BraveHeart for children for two days in the summer
  • Special support groups, including a  Latino Drop-In Group, Survivors of Suicide & Traumatic Loss, Parents Who Have Lost Adult Children, Children & Teen Grief Support and Loss of Spouse/Life Partners at various locations.
